What I Mean When I Talk About Creative Energy
A plain-language introduction to the framework behind all of this work.
If you've spent any time in my world — reading these posts, listening to the Creativity Reset, or just getting a sense of what I do — you've probably encountered the phrase creative energy. I use it a lot. And I want to take a moment to explain what I mean by it, because I think the way I'm using it is different from how it's commonly understood.
When most people hear "creative energy" they think about inspiration. The feeling of being in flow. The burst of motivation that precedes a productive stretch of making. By that definition, creative energy is something that comes and goes — you have it some days and not others, and the work of a creative life is partly about chasing it and trying to hold onto it when it arrives.
That's not what I mean.
The creative energy I'm talking about is more fundamental than inspiration. It's the animating force behind everything you do — the life force that moves through your choices, your relationships, your work, your sense of meaning and purpose. It's what makes you specifically you rather than a generic version of a person. It was there before you had any creative output to show for it, and it doesn't depend on inspiration to keep moving.

Creative energy isn't something that visits you on good days. It's the current that runs through everything you are — whether you can feel it or not.
When this energy is flowing freely, certain things tend to be true. There's a quality of aliveness to your days. Decisions feel clearer. The inner critic loses some of its authority. Making things — whether that's art or a meal or a conversation or a business — feels more like following something than forcing something.
When it's blocked — by old wounds, by absorbed beliefs about whether your expression is worth anything, by the accumulated weight of putting yourself last for too long — everything feels harder. Not impossible, but effortful in a way that doesn't produce much. And it’s exhausting rather than fulfilling.
The work I do is about finding that current, clearing what's been sitting on top of it, and helping people learn to work with it rather than against it. Not through a system or a set of techniques, but through the specific, personal understanding of your own creative energy — what it is, how it moves, what it needs, and what it makes possible when it's flowing.
That's what all of this is for. And if you'd like to explore what that looks like specifically for you, the Soul Gifts Session is the best place to begin — a focused, personal conversation about your creative energy and what comes alive when you start working with it consciously.
